CARE & MAINTENANCE

Colour Consistency

Doors are finished to order in one batch to ensure a consistent colour match across all the doors, panels and accessories. Great care is taken to match colours accurately, but ordering extra product at a later date may mean that a 100% colour match is not possible as the paint will be mixed in a new batch.

We strongly recommend that if you intend to add extra doors later (eg dishwasher, larder) they are ordered at the outset.

Colour and the Environment

When sampling colour the same hue can look quite different on wood, ceramic, paper or cloth. The amount of light reflected or absorbed by gloss, sheen or matt finishes can also alter the perception of the finished colour. We highly recommend that you view a sample in the environment for which it’s intended, in both natural and artificial light.

If you would like to choose a colour not in our range of selected paints we will endeavour to match it as closely as possible to your sample.

The Properties of Painted Finishest

As beautiful and attractive as it is, by its nature paint will mark by scratching, scuffing or chipping.

In particular the hardworking, much lived in kitchen environment can be prone to this. Subjected to daily activities, steam, grease, water and the use of sharp and hard objects it’s almost inevitable that this will happen.

All colours are susceptible to marking but it can be more noticeable with darker hues. We use a matching primer which makes any mark less noticeable and we can supply touch-up paint pots with your order.

A word about Solid Wood Doors

Natural timber expands and contracts depending on ambient moisture or humidity. This natural characteristic can very occasionally be evidenced by minor movement of the paint at a joint in the frame. This does not compromise the function of the door.

Alternatively

If you’re not comfortable with the effects of general wear and tear on painted doors we would suggest one of the many styles of foil wrapped doors in our range. The application of a synthetic membrane over mdf makes for very durable, hard surfaces which are engineered to replicate real wood textures or smooth sleek gloss and matt finishes.

CARE & MAINTENANCE OF KITCHEN & WARDROBE DOORS

On Arrival:

Our products should not be stored or installed in a newly plastered or damp environment. They should be stored flat and on spacers if not for immediate installation. After removing the protective film on GLOSS PRODUCT please allow the surface to cure for seven days before cleaning or wiping.

Cleaning:

  • To clean door surfaces use a soft clean cloth
  • Use 95 parts warm water to 5 parts dish washing soap
  • Wipe with a damp, not wet, cloth
  • Finally dry with a soft clean cloth.
  • • Follow the grain on TIMBER DOORS Do NOT use
  • multipurpose cleaners, dilutes, acetone, vinegar based detergents, solvents, abrasive detergents, alcohol, bleach, products with acid or alkali bases, white spirit or furniture polish.
  • items such as sponge scourers, abrasive items or dirty cloths.

Wax and furniture polishes leave a residue build up which is difficult to remove. Wiping GLOSS DOORS will leave very minor scratch and polish marks, this is intrinsic to this type of finish.

Avoid Moisture Damage:

  • Do not clean with steam or water vapour cleaners.
  • Do not allow water to settle on edges or corners, wipe and dry spills, cooking splashes or condensation immediately with a soft clean cloth. Pay particular attention to sink and diswasher areas.

Avoid Heat Damage:

To avoid damage by excessive heat please follow these simple guidelines:

  • When installing doors adjacent to ovens always ensure that doors are shielded by using heat deflector strips
  • Never use any appliance which generates high levels of heat or concentrated steam (such as a toaster, kettle or pressure cooker) directly under or adjacent to a door or panel.

The Effects of Light:

TIMBER changes colour when exposed to light. The species of timber and intensity of exposure will affect the rate of change.

GLOSS AND PVC surfaces also have a certain tendency to “yellow with age” depending on the exposure to the light.

It is advised that colour change is taken into consideration when replacing or fitting new doors after the original kitchen has been installed.

Touch up Paint

Should you accidently chip, scratch or mark PAINTED doors, use a touch up bottle of the same coloured paint available when you order your doors.

NOTES WHEN CHOOSING PAINTED DOORS AND ACCESSORIES

Painting your doors and accessories means you can express your personal colour choice and create a distinctive ambience.

You will enjoy their beauty for many years but there are some considerations to be aware of.
